The University of Malawi is pleased to announce the results of the 2008 University Entrance Examinations (UEE) and names of candidates who have been selected to pursue various programmes of the University of Malawi for the 2008 to 2009 academic year as residential students.

The 2008 Unima selection was based on Merit using the combined aggregate of Malawi School Certificate Examination (MSCE) results and University Entrance Examinations’ results. Candidates selected to Kamuzu College of Nursing were further subjected to oral interviews meant to establish their interest in nursing.

A total of 3653 candidates sat this year’s UEE. Of this figure, 2650 were males and 1003 were females. 3004 passed UEE and of these, 2239 were males and 765 females. This year, the University of Malawi has selected 974 candidates to enter the university as residential candidates, representing 32% of eligible candidates for admission. Of the total selected, 590 are males representing 22% of eligible male candidates while 384 are females and representing 50% of eligible female candidates.

Successful candidates who have been selected to go to Bunda College are advised to report to the College by Saturday 25th October or Sunday 26th October 2008.

All students are required to pay K25,000 towards their tuition on registration.

Candidates selected to Chancellor College, College of Medicine, Kamuzu College of Nursing and the Polytechnic are advised that the date of reporting to their respective Colleges shall be announced by their respective Colleges later. The lists of successful candidates can be found at University office and all the constituent colleges of the University of Malawi. The lists shall also be published in one of the local week-end newspapers and on the following websites: http://www.unima.mw and http://www.sdnp.org.mw

The University of Malawi is committed to offer university education to as many qualifying Malawians as possible, but it is hampered by the limitation of bed spaces on its campuses. It is in this spirit that the University wishes to advise those that have passed University Entrance Examinations but have not been selected and would like to be considered for admission as non-residential students to apply for the same. Full details on how to go about applying for non-residential programmes shall be communicated through the print media in due course.
