IMPLEMENTING JOINT GENDER
ACTIVITIES
ROLES AND
ACTIVITIES OF THE UN GENDER COORDINATION UNIT
8.1 SETTING UP COORDINATION OFFICE:-
Resources required for the implementation of the UN Joint Gender Policy
include the establishment of the Coordination Unit and funding of the Joint
Gender Activities. UN Agencies will make contributions for the establishment
of the unit to cover the following:-

Physical space and office equipment,
-
Coordinating office with:-
-
Direct access to Heads of Agencies,
-
Personnel equipped with gender analytical skills, technical knowledge as
well as broad practical experience in dealing with multi-sectoral gender
issues,
-
Personnel with experience in designing and implementing gender focused
programmesand policies,
-
Personnel with ability to deal with challenging and different situations,
at policy, and implementation levels,
-
Personnel with a strong belief in and commitment to the achievement of
women's empowerment and gender equality
-
A budget to provide for the costs of operating an administrative office,
a secretary and transportation.
13.2 IMPLEMENTING JOINT
GENDER ACTIVITIES - WHEN THE COORDINATION
OFFICE HAS
BEEN

A three year joint action plan will be developed by the gender policy coordination
office, in consultation with the UN Gender Working Group, and relevant
Government agencies and stakeholders
-
This plan will indicate the resources required to implement the startegies
identified in this policy statement
-
The plan will be the basis for joint agencies' resource mobilisation activities
to establish a fund for implementating joint activities.
