FORESTRY   RESEARCH   INSTITUTE   OF   MALAWI (FRIM)

BACKGROUND

FRIM BACKGROUND

Forestry Research Institute of Malawi was established in 1957 in Dedza as a Silvicultural Research Station under the then Agricultural Research Council of Central Africa to undertake forestry research and development with emphasis on softwood and hardwood species for timber production. The Council was disbanded in 1967 and the Silvicultural Research Branch and the Wood Products Research Unit joined to form the Malawi Forestry Research Institute, which was changed to Forestry Research Institute of Malawi (FRIM) in 1969. The Institute’s headquarters was moved to the present premises in Zomba in 1975.
