MALAWI SDNP

Malawi SDNP will run two training workshops with a duration of six days each during the first two weeks of September 2000 at its location in Blantyre.

2nd WORKSHOP FOR INTERNET NODE OPERATORS

COVERAGE: This is an intensive technical workshop involving both hardware and software aspects of the Internet. The workshop will cover the following areas:
 
  • Introduction to the Internet
  • Operating systems and networks
  • Introduction to UNIX / LINUX
  • Network models and TCP/IP
  • IP and Routing
  • Internet hardware and software
  • Establishing Internet Services
  • E-Mail and Web Servers
  • Managing an Internet Node
  • Malawi Internet case studies
 

PARTICIPATION: Interested organisations and individuals need to submit an application to be admitted to attend the workshop.

Eligible participants will be those with at least a diploma in a computer field or a science degree and at least one year experience in Internet applications such as e-mail and the web. Applicants with a degree in a scientific field will have added advantages for admission.

 
2nd WORKSHOP ON WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT

COVERAGE: The workshop will cover the following areas:
 
  • Introduction to the Internet
  • Web navigation and searching
  • Web authoring using Netscape Composer
  • Introduction to HTML
  • Document Links and Formatting, 
  • Graphics, Tables, Frames, Forms, CGI.
  • Up-loading and publishing
  • Web servers and search engines
  • Project: Organisational Website
 

PARTICIPATION: Interested organisations and individuals need to submit an application to be admitted to attend this workshop.

Eligible participants will be those with a good computer background preferably with good experience in word processing, some experience in Internet applications such as e-mail and web surfing. Applicants with a certificate, diploma in a computer field or a degree in any field will have added advantages for admission.

Applicants who enclose a backing letter from their organisations to attend this workshop and which includes official permission to bring materials to start a website on their organisations will have an added advantage of being admitted. Materials should include an organisational brochure as a minimum.

FEES FOR EACH WORKSHOP: The workshop fee for each participant is the MK equivalent of US$282 which covers tuition, room and meals at Polytechnic or US$180 for tuition and lunch only. Admitted applicants will be informed of the UN exchange rate to be used for fees payment during the first week of August 2000

A few well qualified participants will be sponsored by Malawi SDNP.

All participants will be required to make their own transport arrangements.

All participants will be required to bring either a recordable CD or 25 floppies.

Detailed day-by-day workshop programmes will be released in mid-August 2000.
