Religious, Cultural and Political Publishing in Malawi

The Kachere Series is an initiative of the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Malawi. It aims to promote the emergence of a body of literature which will enable students and others to engage critically with religion, culture and society in Malawi. The Kachere Editors are confident that the books of the Kachere Series will come to be prized not only within Malawi, but in every academic centre concerned with religion and society in Africa. An important aspect of our work is the publication of essays and theses which until now have been inaccessible to all but the most dedicted specialist. It is hoped that the development of scholarship in Malawi will stimulate the writing of many new books.

There are four categories of publishing that the Kachere Series produces: Kachere Books, Kachere Texts, Kachere Monographs, and Kachere Studies. In addition, it publishes two academic journals and the Sources for the Study of Religion in Malawi. In addition, the Mvunguti Series, a sister to the Kachere Series, publishes books in the many languages of Malawi.
